Is this you?

You’re the parent of a teenager, and most days you feel like you’re improvising. Some days it’s a full-blown row over absolutely nothing. Other days it’s silence, the bedroom door closed, the “I don’t know” to every question. And some days it’s worry, theirs and yours, circling the same fear without ever quite landing anywhere useful.

You’ve tried staying calm. You’ve tried explaining. You’ve tried giving them space, and you’ve tried pushing gently for connection. Some days something works. Most days you’re not sure what you did differently, which means you can’t do it again on purpose.

Parenting Teenage Conflicts: Lead, Don’t Control

You’re not failing.

You’re missing one piece of the picture: what’s actually happening in your teenager’s nervous system in that moment, and what’s happening in yours.

Declaring war

Is this your teenager?

They flare up without warning over something small. Or they’ve gone quiet in a way that feels different from just being a teenager, the door closed a little too often, the “fine” that doesn’t quite reach their eyes. Or they’re anxious, about school, about friendships, about things that haven’t even happened yet, and no amount of reassurance seems to land.

Most households see all three of these at different times. Rarely just one.

It’s not that your teenager is being difficult, anxious, or distant on purpose. Something underneath the behaviour is running the show, and once you can see it clearly, almost everything about how you respond gets easier.

Would you like to…

✔️  Understand why your teenager fights, flees or shuts down, and what’s actually happening in their brain when they do?

✔️  Know the difference between the loud problem and the quiet one, so you stop missing the one that doesn’t make any noise?

✔️  Feel calmer and steadier yourself, with something physical you can do in the actual moment, not just something to think about afterwards?

If so, come and join this FREE Parenting Teens Class: Understand their Brain, Stay Sane

This is a brand new session, built from the ground up to cover the three nervous system states that show up in almost every household with a teenager in it: fight, flight and freeze. Ninety minutes, completely free, live online.

What you’ll learn:

The three states behind almost every difficult moment
Fight, flight and freeze, what they actually are, and why understanding them changes everything about how you respond.

Why logic doesn’t work in the heat of the moment, and what does
The science of why you can’t talk your teenager out of a feeling their body is convinced is real, and the simple shift that works instead.

Freeze: the one almost nobody talks about
Why the quiet, shut-down, withdrawn moments, including school refusal, are so easily mistaken for “fine,” and what genuinely helps.

A taste of energy psychology you can use the same evening
A simple, evidence-based practice you can do with your own hands, in under two minutes, any time things start to feel too much.

A man and a girl are lying on a bed with their legs extended vertically, resting on a bookshelf or desk. Both are casually dressed in jeans and plaid shirts, looking relaxed while looking upwards. The room has a cozy atmosphere with shelves and baskets in the background.

    This is for you if…

✔️ You’re tired of feeling like you’re guessing
✔️ You’ve got a teenager who’s loud sometimes, silent sometimes, anxious sometimes, or all three
✔️ You want tools that work in the actual moment, not just good intentions for next time
✔️ You’re ready to feel steadier, even when they’re not

You’ll leave with a clear map of fight, flight and freeze, and a practical tool you can use that very evening.

I found the workshop on Monday to be very useful.  I have found I am much more patient and am managing to maintain that patience throughout an episode my child’s of anxiety for longer.

I had an opportunity to use the techniques you taught just the other week with my eldest son. It worked like a dream and what could have been a disastrous situation was averted. Thank you, thank you.

Inger Madsen - Helping Families be Happy Again

    Meet Inger Madsen

Inger Madsen is a certified and accredited advanced EFT practitioner, a matrix re-imprinting practitioner and mum of three. With surgeon-level laser focus, she has the ability to discern the root cause of unhappiness in the family so that change can happen, fast, saving you and your children years of therapy.

Inger helps parents lead their family through the emotional upheaval and defiance of adolescence.

In her private practice Inger has worked on the coalface of teenage rebellion for two decades. She has delivered workshops for thousands of parents and has collaborated with schools throughout Essex and Cambridgeshire.

Through working with Inger parents have finally processed decades-old emotions that were getting in the way of being a present parent for the child in front of them. They’ve worked out how to set healthy, consistent boundaries with authority and ease, creating the safe space for their family to thrive.

    Join the lunchtime session

    Wednesday 7th October

    12:00 – 13:30

    Will you be selling something?

At the end of the class I’ll share how you can keep working with me if you want to go deeper. But the class itself is a full 80 or so minutes of teaching. You’ll leave with a real understanding of what’s driving your teenager’s behaviour and a practical tool you can use that evening, whether you ever work with me again or not.

Do I have to be on camera or share personal details?

No. You can keep your camera off for the whole session. I might invite the group to share in the chat or unmute, but it’s always your choice. There are no breakout rooms. You’re welcome to simply watch and listen.

What if I can't make either date?

There’s no recording — this class is live only, which is part of what makes it work. I may run it again, so if neither date suits, sign up here to Inger’s Insights to be the first to hear about the next one.

I already know about fight, flight and freeze. What's different here?

Knowing about it and being able to use it when your teenager is kicking off are two completely different things. In this class you’ll practise a technique with me in real time — not just hear about one — and if you have a specific question about your teenager, you can ask it and get an answer on the spot. Most parents leave saying “I knew some of this, but I’ve never been able to do anything with it until now.”

My situation feels more serious than a class can help with. Is this still for me?

This class will give you a useful framework whatever’s going on. But if your child is in danger, harming themselves, or you’re in crisis as a family — please don’t wait for a class. Book a free WayForward Consultation with me now and we’ll work out the right next step together.

    I have another question

No problem, just email me at inger@ingermadsen.com and I can answer you.
